Today, European citizens lack equal access to citizenship education. Public and private funding for non-formal and informal citizenship education varies greatly throughout the EU. Likewise, the degree of formal citizenship education varies in each educational system. Having access to high-quality citizenship education is however the prerequisite for participating in social and political life in the EU and exercising political rights. This is why the EU should secure equal access and enhance the quality of citizenship education through a European Centre for Democratic Competences (ECDC).
We have submitted the proposal to pilot the European Centre for Democratic Competences (ECDC) to the Conference on the Future of Europe: https://futureu.europa.eu/processes/Education/f/36/proposals/981
Please endorse the proposal if you wish to support it being debated during the conference.
